 Robert D. Thompson

October 11, 1942 - May 13, 2011

Thompson, Robert D. "Bob" Age 68, of Aurora, passed away peacefully with his family around him on Friday, May 13, 2011. Bob recently retired from the Department of Inspections and Permits for the City of Aurora where he was the plumbing inspector for over twenty years. He was a member and had served on the board of the Illinois Plumbing Inspector's Association as Secretary-Treasurer and President. Bob was a lifetime member of the Illinois Plumbing and Pipefitter's Union, Locals 501 and 319, during which time he taught for the union at Waubonsee Community College and had a regular column in the UA magazine. Bob was the most honest and caring gentleman any of us have ever known and always found a kind word for everyone. Bob was a forty year member of Holy Angels Parish. He loved to travel and he and Cathy frequently went abroad to see the world with Bridie and Edgar. His family was his pride and joy and we all feel blessed that we had such a wonderful man as a husband, father, brother, uncle and Papa. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-eight years, Cathern "Cathy", his three daughters, Tawnya Thompson, Suzanne Faust, Sharon (Mike) Groble; two granddaughters, Emma Faust and Fiona Groble. He will be sorely missed by his family in Ireland, Bridie and Edgar McCormick, Mary Rose Gallagher, Darren, Gavin, Colleen, Hannah and baby Jamie McCormick and the late Ian McCormick, Shirley McGurk and Eamon Gallagher. He will also be sadly missed by his family in Pennsylvania; a brother, Ed (Nancy) Thompson; a sister, Kathleen (Carl) Marano; eleven nieces and seventeen nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Edna Cloe Thompson, four brothers, Fran (May), Walter (Helen), George (Pauline), Boyd (Helen); a sister, Alberta (James) Wheeler. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 9:30 AM from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY to Holy Angels Church at 10:00 AM. Fr. John Earl will officiate. Interment will be in Derry Northern Ireland. Visitation will be held Monday, May 16, 2011 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with the Rosary to be recited at 6:30pm at the THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 North Lake Street, Aurora, Illinois 60506 or visit www.daleidenmortuary.com
